Frequently Asked Questions

Koh Samui is great to visit all year round.

The rainy season that usually starts in October, runs through November and sometimes into December. It makes the temperature a bit more bearable but temperature still stay’s above 25 degrees.

Koh Samui has two main high seasons, one that starts mid-December to end of March and the other mid-July to end of September.

Koh Samui itself has no dive sites due to poor visibility but all dive schools in koh samui run day trips to Sail Rock(The best dive site this side of thailand) and Koh Tao and occasionally to the Anthong Marine Park.

The months of May/June and July produce some of the clearest visibility for diving up to 40 metres.

The visibility usually drops off dramatically to sometime 1 metre during the rainy season and also bring about swarms of jellyfish (mostly harmless but a rare appearance of a box jellyfish have been seen) This does not stop diving, otherwise you can dive all year round.

NB: There has been no incidents related to diving in Koh Samui/Koh Tao/Sail Rock and box jellyfish.

Dive Trips are rarely cancelled but there are two factor that can cause a boat trip to cancel:

  • High Winds leading to big waves
  • Not enough interested which is rare occurrence and only in low season

There are two modes of transport to the diving sites:

Speedboat which is what we use:

– 50 minutes to Sail Rock one way
– 1 hour and 20 minutes to Koh Tao one way

Slow Wooden Boat:

– 2 hours and 30 minutes to Sail Rock one way
– 3 hours and 30 minutes up to 4 hours to Koh Tao one way

We believe you are there to learn important skills that allow you to become a good, safe and responsible diver. The choice of using a camera solely comes down to the instructor providing the training as they are the best to determine your level of ability in the water and ensure you are not going to be damaging the marine environment due to buoyancy issues that usually arise from using an underwater camera.
